The Delhi Capitals have been dealt a huge blow ahead of Tata IPL 2025. Their star batting recruit from England, Harry Brook, has opted out of the cash-rich league for the second season in a row. The 26-year-old, who was bought by the Delhi Capitals (DC) for a fair sum of INR 6.25 crore, has cited that he wants to prepare better for England cricket, especially in these drastic times for the team when the English side failed to win a single game in the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
With Brook opting out of the IPL for the second time in a row, he is now banned from the league for the next two years under the new terms & conditions of the tournament. The Delhi-based franchise has now a headache. They need an apt replacement for the Englishman, and we have come up with three names who could possibly replace Brook in the Delhi Capitals’ squad.

Shai Hope (West Indies)
West Indies batter and ODI skipper Shai Hope is among the front-runners to represent the Delhi Capitals yet again. The right-hander represented DC last season but remained unsold in the mega auctions this time around. Hope has already featured for Capitals’ sister franchise, Dubai Capitals, in the ILT20 League and can bat anywhere from the opening slot till no. 5 in T20 cricket. With Delhi looking for a batter who could bat in the middle like Brook, a trusted option like Shai Hope could be a good option.
Rassie van der Dussen (South Africa)
South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen is another middle-order batter who could be a good option for the Delhi Capitals. Dussen has been a part of IPL previously with the Rajasthan Royals and could be a great fit for DC. Rassie had a good outing in the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scoring three fifties in as many games. With current form by his side, the 36-year-old makes a strong case for an injury replacement in DC’s camp.

Miachel Bracewell (New Zealand)
New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell is another option the Delhi Capitals could opt for. Bracewell is known for his long handle in the closing overs of the game and is a more than handy off spinner. The Delhi Capitals aren’t short of explosive batters, but a foreign recruit with long hitting abilities and handy off spins won’t be a bad option for the team. Bracewell went unsold in this year’s mega auctions, but he has been a part of IPL before for a solitary season in 2023 for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
