The IPL 2025 is only 10 days away. The premier T20 franchise tournament in the world will have all eyes glued starting on Saturday, 22nd March. The opening match will be played between the reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. On Sunday it will be a doubleheader and the first of the two games will be played between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad. In this post, we will be discussing the inaugural IPL champions Rajasthan Royals who are looking to end their title drought of 17 years now.
IPL 2025: RR at the 2025 IPL Mega Auctions
It would be fair to say that RR had one of the best outfits in the history of the league in their last three seasons. Names like Jos Buttler, Ravichandran Ashwin Yuzvendra Chahal, Trent Boult, etc, were among the squad members. Out of the last three years, RR made it to the playoffs twice including an appearance in the finals of IPL 2023. However, all the aforementioned names won’t be a part of RR’s squad moving ahead. These names have been released and bought by other franchises in the IPL Mega Auction, but RR still managed to build a decent outfit ahead of IPL 2025.

Ahead of the IPL Mega Auctions, RR retained six players: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shimron Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel, Sandeep Sharma, Riyan Parag, and skipper Sanju Samson. They had one of the smallest purses heading into the auctions, but, the team management still managed to buy 14 more players. Have a look.

Rahul Dravid roped in as the new Head Coach of RR
The Rajasthan Royals have made a pleasantry inclusion in their background staff. ICC T20 World Cup winning coach Rahul Dravid has returned to the setup as the Head Coach for the second time in Rajasthan Royals. Fans are excited about Rahul Dravid as RR’s head coach post and he will be working closely with the team mentor Kumar Sangakkara who has had a terrific influence on RR’s players in the last three seasons.
