After Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won their first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) title, rumours started spreading that their parent company, Diageo, might sell the team. But United Spirits, which owns RCB under Diageo, has now confirmed that these reports are not true.
Reports Claim Diageo Plans to Sell RCB
A report by Bloomberg suggested that Diageo, a London-based company known for alcoholic drinks, was thinking about selling RCB either partly or fully. The news came just a few days after RCB’s big win in IPL 2025, adding to the buzz.
The rumours also followed a tragic incident that happened during RCB’s victory celebrations in Bengaluru. A stampede occurred in the city, leading to the death of 11 people as large crowds gathered to celebrate the team’s historic win.

“This is to clarify that the media reports about the possible sale of RCB are just speculation. We are not having any such discussions.”
Diageo Also Informs Stock Exchange
Diageo further informed the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) to make things clear for investors. As per Cricbuzz, Diageo’s Company Secretary, Mital Sanghvi, said:
“The reports are speculative, and we are not in any such talks. This is for your information and records.”
Both statements confirm that there are no current plans to sell RCB.
