As mentioned above, this match is a dead rubber because both these Asian sides have already been eliminated from the competition. The hosts Pakistan lost their opening game against New Zealand in Karachi, followed by a loss to their arch-rivals India in Dubai. With two losses on the bounce, the reigning champions are no longer in the semifinal race.
Bangladesh’s story has been similar to Pakistan’s. Their tournament ended early after losing their opening two games to India and New Zealand.
