Delhi Capitals (DC) secured a clinical victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 40 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
The Capitals won the toss and invited the Super Giants to bat first. The decision backfired on the visitors as the opening pair of Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh were exceptional in steering LSG at a comfortable rate in the powerplay, scoring 51 runs off the first six overs.
In particular, Markram opted for a positive approach to score 52 off 33, with two fours and three sixes. However, Nicholas Pooran (9) could not do justice to the tag of best batter for the side in this game.
Meanwhile, Abdul Samad (2) failed to prove his merit after being promoted to the No. 4 spot. Thereafter, Ayush Badoni (36) played a good hand to keep the home side in good stead, while David Miller (14*) remained unbeaten.
Surprisingly, LSG skipper Rishabh Pant demoted himself to No. 7 and was dismissed for a duck in the last over. The Super Giants ended their innings with a below-par total of 159, while Mukesh Kumar was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets for Delhi Capitals.
In response, Abishek Porel and Karun Nair provided a quick start to the Capitals. Their 36-run stand was brought to an end by Aiden Markram, who went through the gates of Nair (15).
Nevertheless, Porel played an impressive knock, scoring 51 off 36 to put Delhi Capitals in driver’s seat. KL Rahul took his time to settle down in the crease and then played some exquisite shots to increase the team’s tempo. Skipper Axar Patel (34*) looked in good touch, as he smashed four sixes.
Rahul (57*) completed the chase with a crisp pull shot which went for a six in the 18th over. With this victory, Capitals maintained their second spot in the points table with six victories in eight games.
