In what could be a huge morale boost for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Australian pace spearhead Josh Hazlewood is reportedly on track to return just in time for the IPL 2025 playoffs.
Josh Hazlewood returns for IPL 2025 playoffs
As per an ESPNcricinfo report, Hazlewood is nearing full fitness and could rejoin the RCB squad in India shortly before the knockout stage kicks off.
The seasoned right-arm fast bowler has been undergoing rehabilitation in Brisbane for a minor shoulder injury. He returned to Australia following RCB’s final league match before the mid-season break and has since been training as part of Australia’s preparation for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against South Africa.

Although RCB has not officially confirmed Hazlewood’s comeback, sources close to the team suggest that the management is optimistic about his availability for the playoffs. His return could significantly strengthen RCB’s bowling lineup as they prepare to face Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 23 and Lucknow Super Giants on May 27, having already secured their place in the playoff bracket.
Before his injury, Hazlewood had a standout season, claiming 18 wickets in 10 matches at an impressive average of 17.27. His form was a critical factor in RCB’s strong league-stage performance and his presence could be pivotal as the franchise chases its first-ever IPL title.
The 2025 edition marked Hazlewood’s return to competitive cricket after a rough patch marred by injuries. A calf issue during the third Test against India and a lingering side strain had sidelined him from key tournaments including the Champions Trophy and the Sri Lanka tour.
IPL Playoffs Schedule
The IPL 2025 playoffs are set to begin on May 29, with Qualifier 1 scheduled in New Chandigarh. The Eliminator (May 30) will also be hosted in Chandigarh, followed by Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad on June 1, and the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium on June 3.
Alongside RCB, Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians, and Punjab Kings have also secured their playoff spots. If Hazlewood returns as expected, RCB will gain a much-needed edge in their quest for a long-awaited championship.
