Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will lock horns with Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 55 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday (May 5). Mohammed Shami is not in the playing 11 for the match.

Why is Mohammed Shami not playing today?

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins did not mention the reason behind Mohammed Shami’s exclusion from the playing 11 during the toss. However, it is understood that Shami is unhappy with his own performance in IPL 2025 as head coach Daniel Vettori mentioned. Thus, the pacer might have wanted to sit out and give other players a chance.

A look at Mohammed Shami’s performances in IPL 2025

Mohammed Shami has picked up six wickets in nine matches for SRH in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. The Indian pacer has conceded 337 runs in 180 balls with an economy of 11.23. The 33-year-old has a best bowling figures of 2/28, which he recorded against Gujarat Titans on April 6.

Shami has picked up one wicket each against Rajasthan Royals (1/33), Lucknow Super Giants (1/37), Kolkata Knight Riders (1/29), and Chennai Super Kings (1/28). He has remained wicketless in the remaining four games this season.

Eshan Malinga replaces Mohammed Shami in SRH Playing 11

Eshan Malinga has replaced Mohammed Shami in SRH playing 11 for their match against Delhi Capitals. Malinga has picked up five wickets in three matches in IPL 2025. He made his IPL debut for SRH against Punjab Kings and returned with figures of 2/45.

He picked up a couple of wickets against Mumbai Indians (2/36) away from home. Malinga finished his spell with figures of 1/33 against Mumbai Indians at home.

SRH have made two more changes to their playing 11. They have dropped Nitish Kumar Reddy and Kamindu Mendis. Sachin Baby gets his first game of IPL 2025, while Abhinav Manohar returns to the playing 11.
