Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) completed a dominating 42-run victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Match 65 of IPL 2025 on Friday (May 23) at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
Ishan Kishan’s imperious knock fuels SRH’s engine
After being invited to bat first, the Sunrisers were off to a good start with their openers Abhishek Sharma (34) and Travis Head (17). However, they were dismissed in consecutive balls, which put pressure on the SRH middle-order.
The out-of-form Ishan Kishan was impressive to soak up the pressure and stitch crucial partnerships with Heinrich Klaasen (24) and Aniket Verma (26). Kishan provided a terrific finish and remained unbeaten on 94 off 48 balls.
As a result, SRH posted a mammoth 231-run total on the board. Romario Shepherd took two wickets for RCB.
Phil Salt’s fiery fifty goes in vain
In response, RCB openers Phil Salt and Virat Kohli opted for a positive approach to maximize the fielding restrictions. The duo looked in total control, as they amassed 72 runs in the powerplay.
However, Harsh Dubey secured a breakthrough of Virat Kohli (43) at an important juncture. Nevertheless, Salt continued his onslaught to hit 62 off 32 balls, before getting dismissed in the 12th over.
The rest of the batting line-up couldn’t keep up with the required run rate, as RCB eventually lost the game by 42 runs.
