Mumbai Indians (MI) secured a dominating 59-run victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 62 of IPL 2025 on Wednesday (May 21) in Mumbai. With this result, MI have qualified for the playoffs.
Suryakumar Yadav’s knock helps MI reach a safe score
Invited to bat first, MI lost Rohit Sharma (5) early. However, Ryan Rickelton (25) and Will Jacks (21) guided the team well in the powerplay overs.
Tilak Varma’s run-a-ball knock of 27 hampered MI’s momentum, while Suryakumar Yadav also couldn’t accelerate the run rate. Nevertheless, Surya provided a strong finish with his 73*-run knock of 43 balls, while finding support from Naman Dhir (24* off 8).
As a result, the home side posted a strong 180-run total. Mukesh Kumar was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets for the Capitals.
Mitchell Santner chokes DC’s middle-order
In response, DC were to a dismal start, losing their experienced batters, Faf du Plessis (6) and KL Rahul (11). However, Vipraj Nigam displayed impressive counter-attacking to infuse confidence into the DC lineup.
However, Mitchell Santner cut-short Nigam’s (20 off 11) innings. Soon, Jasprit Bumrah trapped Tristan Stubbs (2), which was a big blow to DC’s hopes.
Santner went on to dismiss Sameer Rizvi (39) and Ashutosh Sharma (18) as well. In the end, the Capitals were all-out for 121 and lost the game by 59 runs. Santner was the wrecker-in-chief with figures of 3/11 off four overs.
