Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured a thrilling six-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 70 of IPL 2025 on Monday (May 27). The Ekana Stadium in Lucknow hosted the closely contested fixture, which saw RCB progressing to the Qualifier 1.
Rishabh Pant’s ton propels LSG to a big total
Batting first, LSG lost debutant Matthew Breetzke (14) early. However, Rishabh Pant and Mitchell Marsh looked on song with their impressive strokeplay.
The duo built a 152-run stand, before Marsh was dismissed for 67 off 37. Nevertheless, Pant went on to increase the team’s tempo, leading them to a mammoth total of 227. The southpaw slammed 118* off 61, with 11 fours and eight sixes.
Jitesh Sharma’s powerful knock fuels RCB’s engine
In response, RCB were off to a quick start, with Virat Kohli and Phil Salt. The duo set up the chase in a brilliant fashion, before Salt’s (30) dismissal put an end to their 61-run partnership.
Amid failures of Rajat Patidar (14) and Liam Livingstone (7), Kohli managed to keep the team in the hunt. However, the veteran batter was dismissed on 54 off 30, with RCB at 123/4 in the 12th over.
At this point, Mayank Agarwal and Jitesh Sharma accelerated the team’s run rate with their positive intent and found consistent boundaries. In the end, it was all Sharma’s show, as he smashed his career-best 85* off 33 balls to seal the chase with eight balls to spare. Notably, Agarwal proved to be a strong support as well, scoring 41 off 23.
