Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) by one run in Match 53 of IPL 2025 on Sunday (May 4) in Kolkata.

Choosing to bat first, KKR lost Sunil Narine (11) early. Thereafter, Rahmanullah Gurbaz (35) and Ajinkya Rahane (30) guided the team well.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi (44) played an important knock to steer the Knight Riders in a comfortable fashion. In the end, Andre Russell (57*) played his best knock of the season, while Rinku Singh (19*) provided some lusty shots to boost KKR’s total to 206.

In response, RR were off to a disappointing start, losing two wickets inside the first two overs. Nevertheless, Yashasvi Jaiswal (32) and Riyan Parag played with a positive intent to drive the visitors smoothly in the powerplay, while finishing on 59/2 after the end of six overs.

​After Jaiswal’s dismissal, Parag played a heroic knock, while hitting six sixes on the trot in a space of two overs. He found support from Shimron Hetmyer (29), before the Caribbean batter was dismissed in the 16th over.

Parag was unfortunately dismissed on 95, while Shubham Dubey (25*) played well, but RR lost the game by just one run. Moeen Ali, Harshit Rana and Varun Chakaravarthy picked up two wickets apiece for the Knight Riders.

With this victory, KKR have held their hopes of reaching the playoffs. They are now at the sixth spot with 11 points. Meanwhile, RR are eighth in the table with three victories in 12 appearances.
