Due to significant escalation of conflict between India and Pakistan, IPL 2025 has been unfortunately suspended. The decision was finalized in BCCI’s meeting on Friday (May 9) morning.
The development comes after India and Pakistan have engaged in an expansive military conflict, involving missiles and drones. It all started after 26 civilians were killed by the terrorists in Pahalgam in Jammu & Kashmir.
In response, India retaliated by targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and PoK. As a result, both countries are now on a war front.
Although, the official announcement is yet to be made by BCCI or IPL, reputed media houses and journalists have confirmed the news.
With the overseas players having anxiety amid war, BCCI has reportedly opted to suspend IPL 2025 on a temporary basis. The move was taken to safeguard the players and the stakeholders.
There were still 12 league games left to be played in the league stage, followed by the playoffs.
IPL 2025 game between PBKS and DC was called off mid-way
Notably, Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) clashed on May 8 in Match 58 of IPL 2025 in Dharamsala. After PBKS scored 122/1 in 10.1 overs, the game was stopped prematurely, citing the reason of floodlight malfunction.
However, as Dharamsala is situated close to the border, the stadium as well as venue saw an abrupt blackout. The crowd was instructed to leave the stadium, while the travel arrangements were made for the players and officials to take them to the hotel.
It is worth noting that the news sources claimed that a special train will run for the players to take them from Dharamsala to New Delhi.
“We were told about attacks in nearby Pathankot. We are asked to go back to the hotel immediately. There was some panic… Delhi Capitals were seated in the Punjab team bus and vice versa,” a player was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
