India’s young batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal is set to make his ODI debut in the first game of the three-match ODI series against England. Fast bowler Harshit Rana will also be playing his first ODI match for Men In Blue. Both players were presented with their ODI caps before the toss. The duo has already played for India in T20Is and tests.

The opening match of the series is being played at the Vidarbha Cricket Stadium, in Nagpur. This series is a perfect platform for both teams to find their best combination ahead of the 2025 ICC Champions trophy.

India vs England 1st ODI: Who won the toss?

England captain Jos Buttler won the toss in the series opening match in Nagpur and decided to bat first. It could be a good toss to win as the ground is not known for high-scoring affairs. In the last two matches, the team batting first only managed to score 242 and 250 runs respectively.

Also, this is the first ODI match that is being played at this venue since 2019 when India managed to record a narrow eight-run win over Australia, defending a 250-run total.

Big names are missing

Some big names were missing from India’s playing 11. At the toss, India captain Rohit Sharma announced that Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli will be sitting out the series opener. Kohli was seen with straps around his knees before the match, so he is down with an injury apparently.

Pant, on the other hand, missed out because of KL Rahul who will be playing as a specialist wicket-keeper batsman in the first ODI. India is also going with three spinners in the shape of Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav.
