Since the Border-Gavaskar series, there’s a constant discussion around Rohit Sharma’s form and how long can he play for India. The topic became even hotter when he was “rested” for the 5th test match against Australia.

So when Rohit Sharma came to address the press conference ahead of the 1st ODI match against England, he was asked about his current form and future in the Indian team after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Rohit Sharma Loses His Cool

Rohit Sharma is known for keeping his composure. In the past, when Indian suffered setbacks and defeats, Indian’s captain never lost his cool and answered normally. But this time, during the press conference ahead of India vs England ODI series, Sharma lost his composure when asked about his form and future in the Indian Cricket Team.

“What kind of a question is that? This is a different format, a different time. As usual, as cricketers, we know there will be ups and downs and I have faced a lot in my career, so this is nothing new to me. We know every day is a fresh day, every series is a fresh series,” Rohit said.

Rohit highlighted that he is focusing on the future, rather than dwelling on the past. The captain also said that his only focus is to start the series on a positive note.

“I am looking forward to the challenge, not looking at what has happened in the past. Clearly you don’t, so obviously for me also there is no reason to look back too much. A lot of good things have happened as well. It’s important that I focus on what is coming up and what lies ahead for me. It is as simple as that. Look to try and start the series on a high,” Rohit added.

For Indian cricket fans who have been following Rohit Sharma since he became the captain of the national team, it was a strange press conference. Even after India were bowled out for 46 runs in a home test match against New Zealand, the 37-year-old answered questions calmly. But it was a different press conference as the captain didn’t hold back when prodded about his future and role in the Indian cricket team.

“How is it relevant that I talk about my future plans sitting here when there are three ODIs and a Champions Trophy coming up. Reports have been going around for a number of years, but I am not here to clarify those reports. For me, these three games and the Champions Trophy are very important, so my focus is on these games. We will see what happens afterwards,” Rohit said.

Rohit Sharma on Hardik Pandya

Rohit was also asked about Hardik Pandya and his injury history. For the uninitiated, Hardik had to leave the ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 midway due to an injury, which weakened India.

“Why are we thinking about the negatives? That he will get injured, this will happen, that will happen. In the minds of the selectors, there are things. I can’t say that here. We played the World Cup when they got injured. He got injured in the third or fourth match. After that, we played the whole tournament. Although we lost the final, we played good cricket till the final. So now, I won’t think about what will happen if we get injured. You are playing good cricket now. So we will hope that you keep playing good cricket and nothing happens,” he said.

The first match of the three-match ODI Series will kick-start on February 6 in Nagpur.
