IND vs ENG 2025: Key Takeaways from the Announced Squad

Let’s take a look at some of the biggest takeaways from India’s Test squad announcement.

  • Mohd Shami Dropped: Senior paceman Mohammad Shami has been dropped from the squad on fitness grounds. The 34-year-old wasn’t available in the Border-Gavaskar Test series as well due to fitness concerns.
  • Karun Nair returns: Karun Nair, who was exceptional throughout the domestic season last year, has received his much-deserved prize. The 33-year-old is back in India’s Test squad after 8 long years and is in contention to take the vacant no 4 spot left by the great Virat Kohli. Nair last played a Test match against Australia at Dharamsala in 2017.
  • Arshdeep Singh and Sai Sudharsan get maiden call up– Punjab’s premier left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh and Tamil Nadu’s left-hand batter Sai Sudharsan have earned a much-deserved call-up in the Indian Test team. Sai could be the next Test opener of Team India, after Rohit Sharma’s retirement, whereas Arshdeep could fill in the boots of Mohammed Shami who has been dropped due to injury.
