The Indian Cricket Team’s premier pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, has run out of time. The right-arm pacer couldn’t nurse his back injury ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025 and has been ruled out. Following a protracted period of uncertainty regarding his fitness following a back injury, Bumrah was eventually confirmed to miss the 2025 Champions Trophy last night.
“Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy due to a lower back injury. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Harshit Rana as Bumrah’s replacement. Team India have also named Varun Chakaravarthy in the squad. The spinner will replace Yashasvi Jaiswal who was initially named in the provisional squad,”– said BCCI in a release
BCCI has made quite a few additions to the Champions Trophy Squad
Jasprit Bumrah’s unavailability news comes as a huge blow to the Indian cricket team fans. Bumrah was instrumental in India’s campaign for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. He was at the top of his game in Australia, claiming 31 wickets in the entire series before getting his back injured midway in the first innings of the final Test in Sydney.
The BCCI has made some additions to the existing Champions Trophy squad. Delhi pacer Harshit Rana has been named as Bumrah’s replacement. Also, Tamil Nadu’s mystery spinner has been drafted to the squad replacing opener Yashavi Jaiswal, who was initially named in the squad.
3 Non-travelling substitutes also named
Apart from the 15-member Champions Trophy squad, BCCI has named 3 non-travelling substitutes in case of any injuries. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. medium pacer Mohammed Siraj, and all-rounder Shivam Dube. These substitutes will travel to Dubai as and when needed.
