Australia’s dealt a huge blow, with their star-studded pace attack—Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood— all three getting ruled out of the tournament. Cummins (ankle), Hazlewood (side and calf) and Mitchell Starc (personal reasoms) have weakend the bowling unit.

Earlier, all-rounder Marcus Stoinis had retired a week before the squad announcement while Mitchell Marsh was ruled due to a back injury. These absentees have created voids in the batting order as well.

“The last month has been challenging with key injuries and Stoinis’ retirement, but we’ve called up players who have proven themselves at the international level. We have flexibility in our lineup and will adapt our playing XI based on conditions and opposition,” said Chief selector George Bailey on squad announcement.
